More than meets the eye: The Bösendorfer Grand Upright 130 incorporates Viennese tradition and the experience of almost two centuries of piano making. While physically an upright piano, the instrument surprises with subtle nuances and a powerful bass. A pure, pristine and immense piano sound, without further tonal colors that are inherent to the large body of a concert grand, are the stunning result. Sometimes the best things do come in smaller packages – the inspiring tone of this Bösendorfer upright certainly defies its size, offering a grand sound with stellar clarity and an exceptional dynamic range. The variety of creative ‘dry’ and ‘reverberated’ options make this already versatile instrument even more adaptable, and its unique timbre a perfect fit for projects across any genre. An absolute modern classic.

The Bösendorfer Factor
The legendary pure and rich Bösendorfer sound is based on the Viennese tradition of piano making and its complex construction. Bösendorfer uses more than 80% naturally dried resonant spruce wood to build its instruments – more than any other manufacturer. When a note is played, the integrated spruce components become acoustically active, forming one entire resonating body that is similar in principle to a violin. Its precise mechanics offer optimal power transmission and maximum controllability. The carefully hand-spun bass strings – steel core strings with one to two layers of copper – contribute to the warm and sonorous sound.
Sampling Precision
To accurately digitalize the Bösendorfer Grand Upright 130 with all its subtleties, our engineers developed an exceptionally precise motion-control system based on a solenoid that controls a noise-free “robot finger”. The micro-controller moves the finger with super-human precision, providing flexible curvatures for down-strokes and release movements, the latter corresponding with the preceding note length and various release speeds.
In order to capture this marvellous instrument in Stage B of Vienna Synchron Stage, our recording engineers used multiple high-end microphone arrays (8 microphone positions), offering an abundance of options for creating your individual sound. Even if you’re not using a surround setup, adding the Full Library’s additional room microphone signals to your stereo mix will provide you with more ambience variation and spatial depth.
Customize Your Own Bösendorfer Sound
In addition to the multitude of options from mixing various microphone signals, the Bösendorfer Upright comes with the free Vienna Synchron Pianos software that offers multiple options for shaping your sound and your playing experience. Hosting a high-performance playback engine, the software provides a full-blown mixer with a broad range of effects such as EQ, compressor, saturator, algorithmic reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, rotary, and many more. You may also adjust the volume of body resonances, sympathetic strings and pedal noises right in the main Play window. In the Edit window you can even tweak EQ, volume, tuning, dynamic range, etc. for each individual key!
NKS Integration
This Library supports Native Instruments’ NKS format and is compatible with Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine. Use the Light Guide to quickly identify key switches and play ranges of your instruments, browse and preview sounds, and quickly adapt them using pre-configured control knobs.
