This exceptional grand piano is a piece of music history you can actually play. Built in 1895, the Blüthner is characterized by a very detailed and clear, yet warm sound that is extremely versatile. That’s why the Blüthner sits extremely well in the mix of contemporary recordings and is suitable for genres that didn’t even exist when this masterpiece of craftsmanship was made. The Blüthner effortlessly transcends both temporal and musical boundaries. Legendary composers such as Debussy, Brahms, Mahler, Bartók, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovitch, and Rachmaninov created their works on these specific pianos – and Paul McCartney famously played a Blüthner concert grand when recording “Let It Be” for the movie of the same title in 1969. Now you can bring this rich heritage into your own studio with an immaculate capture of this remarkable instrument that is easy to use and just as flexible as the physical original.

Built by the famous Julius Blüthner Pianofortefabrik of Leipzig, this exceptional instrument was acquired by Synchron Stage Vienna after having been lovingly restored by master piano builder Bernhard Balas from Vienna. But the impressive history of this piano isn’t the only thing that makes it truly exceptional. The 193 cm professional scale instrument is equipped with Blüthner’s specially developed and patented Aliquot system that uses additional dampened strings positioned above the conventional strings of the treble register, which are not struck by the hammers but resonate sympathetically. This fourth set of strings enhances the overtones, providing a velvety, organic shimmer and give the instrument a particularly lyrical “singing” quality. In addition, the strings are unusually long and thin, stretched to an enormous string tension of 20 tons, which helps define the instrument’s specific sound. In combination with its soft hammers the Blüthner grand produces a unique timbre that is superior to many modern instruments in its variety of tonal colors.
